Sunset Boulevard

I felt like I was analyzing Norma throughout the entire film of Sunset Boulevard. It was easy to figure out that she was full of herself because of all the pictures she had of herself but I never thought she would have gone as far as to kill Joe. She forced Joe to stay with her by threatening to kill herself and providing him with anything he desired. Norma treated Joe like a pet and had a tremendous amount of power over him that was so obvious. I felt so sad for Joe because he was such a good person who just wanted to find a job and ended up dead in the end. The two of them together made me uncomfortable because they were the complete opposite of one another. One major characteristic of Joe that I admired was his sense of reality that stuck with him until the end. Joe was real and Norma was wrapped up in her own unrealistic world that made her an awful person. Although I did feel bad for Norma, my sympathies went entirely out to Joe because he endured so much suffering and did not deserve any of it. I related Joe to the dead monkey at the start of the movie because he basically became that dead monkey in the end. The only good that Joe got out of being with Norma is justice because her true self was finally discovered by the public.
